What Hard Drive.

I have had my EX7000 for a few months now and I am now looking to hook up an external hard drive. Is thier a particular type that I need. I keep reading about Caddy`s for the Hard Drives ? Are these an essential.
If some kind sole could post a link to something similair to what I need I would be very grateful.
