ex5000 pvr problem?

Hi all
Im a newbie with this tv reciever stuff , ive had a good look about on forum and cant find nothing about this problem.

Ive got my mates ex5000pvr that was working fine, he switches the power off from the wall on a night and when he switched back on one day box wont turn on properly.

standby light comes on with the 4 green lights running horizontal, then the power light goes off the green lights start rolling round the outside of display then off and repeats, on off on off ect.

Ive linked up to serial cable with a laptop running xp ,using darx ufl, i click download and it looks on port 1 then 3 but dont find reciever so i click start and pick port 1 which is right port.

The reciever starts flashing dnld on display and the flash sends the info then starts writing, it gets to around 60% of writing then goes off and back to the lights. And says download failed.

what firmware did he flash it with in the 1st place if it was the nosort it may need jtaged that firmware killed alot of boxes

Try the reset button on the main board - then reflash, might work for you, but I have to agree with "chic" it might need to be jtagged.

Not sure to be honest because i think he bought the box from a friend of a friend and we cant contact the main seller, when the flash is reading off the box it says v2.0 but not sure about wether it was sort or nosort. Il try the reset and let yall know. By the way if it does need jtaging! i have read a little about it and ill read alot more. BUT Jtag cable ?10 from

i have the same problem mate with my 2 pvr 5000's. the firmware is better and more stable than november 2008, however if you leave it on standby overnight it has to re-boot the firware again in the morning when you switch it back on. ive decided to leave the box on all the time and its working great. ps i downloaded the auto sort firmware so i think theres stanby issues with both autosort and non autosort firmware.

can any one tell me if NTL has blocked all the Eurovox 5000 codes or is there something I can do to get the channels back

Hi m8 no is the answer to your question thay can change them what you should do is flash your box with the latest firmware and it will auto update the codes you can find it in downloads
