99% of the time my 5100PVR turns on and off without a problem but every now and then, I turn it on and it stalls for a few seconds then these ---- appear for a few seconds and then it fires up as normal. Whys that then, is it morse code from Mr Branson?

It's just re-booting, why do you turn it on & off so often
I can understand turning it off overnight, but not constant on/off
You might be better to use standby during the day. Just my opinion.

I dont turn it 'on/off' at the plug or switch at the back, but via the remote using standby.

Sorry ANTO, but your post did say ON & OFF, not STANDBY.
Not to worry I'll forgive your indiscretion this time.
Good to see you up with the lark (if you could find a lark thesedays)
It's a bank holiday here Irl. & I have not got to bed yet. Not much point in
        going now.
Seriously tho excessive use of standby could wear out bootloader,
when you see horizantal bars on LCD box is re-booting.

Top of the morning to you, your like a nettle, beware some make soup out
of pesky weeds. The eurovox is a robust box so bootloader will be OK.
5100 rem. is delicate tho,but they cost less than ?10. So hammer away at
it ANTO.I can sell you one for a small mark-up if your stuck.
Don't bring your 5100 to Dingle you need a EUROVOX-TX over there

Next time you google GAEILGE don't go for that YANK gaeilic crap
P.S. FUNGHI the dolphin is a blow- up doll, but all you tourists & exiles

Thnks EAMO 2. Back to English tho eh, youve left me almost wishing I wasnt..............we do have a number of fine Irish players at SUFC but 'Top of the morning' and 'To be sure to be sure' is where it just about starts and stops. Anyway, this bootloader thing, will a reflash cure it? Is it part of the software or is it actual hardware, pardon my ignorance.

SUFC Ye are not exactly top of the tree, at least your near enough to the
coast to flee when ye play ACCRINGTON STANLEY (who). Why don't ye
get KK in, then ye could be playing STEVENAGE
That bootloader thing is normal. Power-off box for 1 min, power-on again
                Watch re-boot cycle, that's normal start-up cycle for 5100
In standby for while box will cycle in anticipation,if you hit standby during
this box will come on straight away, because it's ON DUTY
If you don't hit standby during this time box will stand down(off duty)
So when you hit standby it has to re-boot from scratch.
If it bothers you get a 1000sl, It just has blu led (on) & red led (off),
so you won't know what's going on inside box.
I'd love to have your troubles, mind yourself & avoid relegation
                Slan abhaile
