Splitter Question

Hi Guys,

I think the previous owners of my house had VM and there is this cr@py splitter that is now hanging of the wall and the connectors seem old and dodgy.

I've attached a couple of pics for you to see:

Will it be ok to get rid of this old VM splitter and replace it with my newer, smaller version. The thing im concerned about is the main cable coming on at the bottom. Will it be ok to unscrew the old splitter and attach the new one without damaging the feed in to the house and myself?

that crappy old splitter looks like an isolator which will stop your box getting struck be lightening, can you not just conseal it behind that white box screwed to the wall

thay are not splitters thay are the boxes that vm fit one of the out's is for tv the other is fm connect a cable to the tv one then to your box and see if it is live

hard to see what it is but to me it looks like it may be a tv and radio outlet that are old,it may be a double tv outlet.you can replace it for a newer type that has screw on f connectors and much tighter connections.the golden rule with coaxial keep the inner and outer separate.always replace with good high standard cable as older cable you will get interference.

interesting point this always a good idea to have all electronics shielded with coaxial,sat cables,mains feed and phone protection

Sorry but that was the best pic i could get.

One of the outputs is used for my broadband, the other is free. I connected some coaxial cable to the free output (it's live by the way), and then the other end via an f connector to the back of my tv set (aerial socket) and the picture quality was horrendous. I think because i couldn't get a tight enough connection on the box. Therefore i have used a splitter from the from the broadband cable, and then coaxial to my tv set.

A question if you don't mind:

Any ideas what type of connector vm have used on the broadband cable, and where to buy one? This is so i can get a better and tighter fit, rather than using a splitter?

In case your confused, i haven't got myself a Eurovox yet (gunna order tomorrow). I am simply going through the aerial socket on my TV, as i wanted to make sure it would all work before shelling out ?100 on a box.

the other one will not be live for tv its for fm so as tv and bb come down same cable you will need to introduce a splitter where the cable goes into your modem

Wilf, i don't understand, concerning the other output. You say it wont be live, but how come when i connected some coaxial to it and then to the back of my TV aerial socket i was able to receive channels (albeit with a terrible grainy picture)?

Could it be that it is live and i just require a better connection to it, something similar to the connector on the other output?

Hi m8 i am sure the other output is for fm radio thats why the pic your getting is poor it is not strong enough for tv pictures , put a splitter on your bb connection

yes agree other side for radio it is usually written on it.
