    scrambled channels query

    Hi

Does anyone know why channels become scrambled every so often? Is it a random thing or are there factors that actually cause the scrambling?

    Thanks.

yes the keys are rolled in order to stop people getting premium channels for free.

update the firmware and it will auto update the keys.

I have an ex1000sl - how would i update the firmware? By updating does the box revert to factory settings as in do all channels hav to be sorted in order again? I was told that only the copy boxes would need updating? Thought my original box wouldnt need 2 be updated?

Can you do the updating by the box's menu?

if you reed the red stickies at the top of the eurovox section it will tell you how to update the firmware and what cables you will need.
if somebody told you only copy boxes and by that i take it they mean clones need updating then they are wrong as all boxes will at some point need to be updated.

So basically theres no way of "saving" the channel list before you manual scan or update channels?

Is it best to always update channels rather than manual scan? Reason i ask is that i remember once i updated channels and was still missing the likes of espn, sky1 etc and had to do a factory reset a couple of times.

When channels appear as scrambled ive been doing manual scans to guarantee i dont lose any more again as im a bit sceptical of updating channels - is this the best way to go?!

Also how do you know the difference between clone and orginal boxes - i was told mine was original but would like to be sure myself (sorry for the amount of questions!).

A silver heat sink ,(square metallic block) on the
CPU will tell you if the box is a clone.
if you update your channels list it should just add new channels if you scan it will clear the existing list.
if you wanted to save your channel list you can upload the cdf file to your pc and save it there which you would do before updating the firmware.
when channels have been scrambled recently i have put my box on a premium channel then switched it off then on again it works for me as the channel comes back and i am using firmware from Dec 08.

So i would have to open up the box to check for the heat sink??

When you say update channels finds new channels ..... does this mean you get extra channels?

Thanks for the tip on sorting the scrambled channels - i'll give it a go next time it happens (by the way premium channel as in any movie channel or sky sports?)

it might be possible to see the heat sink through the vents in the top of the box if not then you may have to open it up.

if any new channels available then you would get extra ones or in the case of setanta recently it would remove them thats what it did with my box.

premium channels are any paid for channel sky movies etc.
