you would be better off flashing your box with the latest firmware to avoid having to mess with codes.
regarding you loosing various channels you can manually scan the frequency that the channel is on to get it back, so you dont have to do a full scan.
(1)put the channel on and press the info button twice and make a note of the frequency
(2)then go to user installation on your menu and scroll to the frequency and press the ok button on your remote(a tick will appear next to the frequency)
    (3) now press the manual scan button on your remote (green) and wait for about 30 seconds.
    good luck .

      wierd problem with decodes

ive got ex5000 and it is brill, but.... i am having simerler problem to above in that every time i switch it off, and occationally when watching, it says updating code then says scrambled channel, so basicly it looses espn and espn classic, plus a couple of the tv2 channels, but keeps all the others, is the firmware not able to decode these channels when it needs to update?

      is there a fix

virgin midlands area, could i need a slightly different baud rate?

it is probably the same way as the others m8 ,just look for the user installation on the menu.
