    Splitting VM Feed

    Hi.

I have my VM feed coming in from the street via the bedroom and then from the terminal there under the floor to the living room where it is split to my Eurovox and cable modem.

I want to split the connection from the terminal in the bedroom so that the cable still runs through to the living room but so I can have the VM box connected to a TV in the bedroom at the same time.

I have a splitter and the required cable but what would the likely impact be on signal strength to both boxes with 2 splitters in the line, in particular my Eurovox which will effectively pass through both splitters? Also any likely side effects to my broadband, which will also pass through the same 2 splitters?

If need be would an attenuator be my answer to any signal strength issues and if so could someone post a link to the exact product I would require, Maplins would be fine as there's one round the corner from me.

    Thanks.

you should not notice any signal problems except when scanning. just scan from mains to get all channels then introduce your splitter, i have had four and bb running at 1 time. if you do notice any drop just get a booster

      Ok cheers.

I just noticed on the end of one of the cables I was intending to use there is an attenuator on the end. It says on it FAT -3dB which I am assuming is to reduce the signal strength as opposed to increase it? This can be removed if indeed my assumption is correct.

I will crack on with splitting my feed later today, but assuming signal strength is a problem what sort of signal booster would I need?

      Thanks again.

yes there is an attenustor on alot of lines, i wouldnt move anything mate just split the line then post back any results you find if anything wrong and someone will confirm whats needed to put it right. too much signal usually pixlating picture and cant get channels through too low signal. dont spend money unnessesary mate

Will be cracking on with it later and don't worry mate not gonna go out spending money willy nilly, already had to "convince" the girlfriend the Eurovox was a necessity.

The cable with the attenuator on it is just a cable I pulled out from my previous address and isn't currently connected to anything, as far as I can see there are no other attenuators on the line in my current address.

Therefore Im planning to remove the attenuator from the cable before I put in the splitter etc... on the assumption the -3dB means its reducing the signal strength as opposed to boosting it, which would be counter productive when adding the other box in.

Last question, FAT -3dB means its for reducing signal strength?

sometimes they put attenuators in the brown box on outside wall or in white box internally in house, remove that 1 from that cable then and just put an f connector on in its place. yes thats the reduction in signal strength
