ex5100 pvr hdd problems

I'm having problems inserting the hdd in the eurovox ex5100pvr. I've put the tape on as instructed and inserted it into the slot, but when I press the pvr button the message says it's either full or not inserted. when I looked inside at the pin arrangement it seems to be different to the pin arrangement on the hard drive sent with the unit. The hard drive was brand new as was the box.
Any ideas anybody please?
