EX1100 Recording

I Have a Ex1100 which records fine as long as i don't want to watch anything else. once recording starts i cannot change channel, my FAV button does not respond, and if i press the channel up and down keys it will only let me view several channels of which the machine chooses for me. if i select a channel of my choice all i'm getting is a blank screen!!!

Can anyone help?????

The box only has one tuner so you can only watch channels that are on the same frequency as the channel you are recording.
