    internet interferes with the tv

    hi, i'm steve and i'm a newbie.

my problem is pretty much as it says above, my broadband interferes with my tv something wicked!

it bothers my ntl box to varying degrees but completley wipes out the eurovox max v 2008!!

the broadband cable is really long and runs right through the house. the seperate tv cable is very short and literally runs just through the wall to their box.

i have tried a signal booster for the tv and i gained a few channels but it did nothing to improve my reception when doing anything internet related. tv signal strength is 80% for most channels.

i can now appreciate why my neighbours used to hate me and my cb radio when i was a kid!

does anyone have any ideas what i can do?

    thanks.

    Steve.

without putting a swires meter on to test the signal strengths it will be difficult...but you could get a short lead, disconnect the long lead, and try the modem on the short lead to see if it still interferes....how long is the long cable...you will lose 1.1db for every 10 meters

      thanks for the quick reply.

the broadband cable is about 30m long. tv is maybe 2m.

i would have to disconnect the broadband from the ntl box on my outside wall and i would have to run it back in through the window and about 20ft across the room to the computer. that said, i think the ethernet cable is pretty long too, so i might be able to halve that distance. just have to wait for it warm up a bit before i go opening windows.

i understand that the length of the cable may affect the broadband speed/quality, but don't see what impact that would have on the tv?

      thanks again,

      Steve.

just for testing purposes, you can get a 2 short pieces of cable and a splitter, 4 screw on sky connectors, .....put the splitter on end of your original tv cable, (to input of splitter) screw the two short leads to outputs on splitter, one lead to modem, and the other to the tv box just to see if there is any difference...its possible your long lead to broadband has some damage somewhere? this will eliminate that if you still get the interferance...it all sounds like an elimination process mate...but good luck....especially as v/m can charge ?75 service charge.....i know as i used to work for them

you could also have a faulty splitter in the box on the wall outside
