help with wireless connection pls...

hmmm yet you say the wifi light is now on... I am at work at the moment so cannot check mine.. reboot your devices and router (first) for good measure and when all back up try another ping...

try putting in your routet ip in the nameserver box first though, if that does not work try the reboot.

As nige says don't think you can have the same ip address for the box and gaming adapter. Why don't you set them both to dhcp and see what is picked up from the router.

i unplugged my router and the gaming adapter and the openmedia box,
then plugged them back in,
now the wireless light on the gaming adapter has not come on at all.

i put in the nameserver as the ip router,
i rebooted and all the channels went like a greeny colour,
dont know what that was about .
i put the same namserver back in and rebooted all was back to normal

did the ping 192.168.1.5
same reply -

ok so i've set the dhcp on for both the gaming adapter and on my openmedia box!

after i put the dhcp on the gaming adapter,
it has the following ip 192.168.1.3

i ensured the wireless gaming adapter was connected to the openmedia box and powered on,
i went on to the settings page, i ticked dhcp and then i rebooted it,
the openmedia box gave me the following details -
ip 192.168.1.5
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 198.162.1.1
nameserver - 127.0.0.1

to double check it is automatically giving me these details,
i manually changed the ip on openmedia to 192.168.1.4,
ensured dhcp was ticked and rebooted the openmedia box and got the same details as above -
ip 192.168.1.5
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 198.162.1.1
nameserver - 127.0.0.1

the wireless sign is flashing on the gaming adapter!!!!

i tried to ping 192.168.1.5 (openmedia ip) and 192.168.1.3 (gaming adapter ip) but it gives me the same 'request timed out' message

Dhcp is not necessary, it a 'choice', but i choose not to use it as i am not going to run out of ip addresses on my network neither are you.

therefore with my devices which had their ip addresses fixed (xbox and dm as they were not going to be on any other network) I connected the wifi gaming adapters. I left the internal networks setting of these devices the same as when they were wired.

I connected the wifi adapters using the same ip, dns (nameserver same is gateway in DM bit all zeros in xbox), gateway info as in the devices. I had to setup the wifi devices by attaching them to another laptop whoes own network connection (laptop wifi) was switched off. When i could get the laptop talking to the network using the wifi adapeter as its network connection it was done.

I enabled the web interfaces (http) in the devices so that I could log onto them using my browser.

I did not need to anything else.

i am not surprised, just do as i have done above... its all you need to do.. do not be in hurry..

I am off to catch a plane later so will not be around for a couple of weeks. read it carefully and do it as i said, be sure the wifi is working and connecting to the network with your pc before you move it to your box.. and make sure your putting in the correct wifi network key.. what level of encryption are you using on your router. I just use 128bit wep as its easier for these devices..


for the sake of setting it up, switch off your wifi security for a while, when you have the devices connecting then switch it back on..

Exactly.. Once you got the router to work on a wired network, then you can mess with the wireless settings,
as I said, to find out that the wireless enabled on the router by scanning it with another wireless gadget like a iphone,PSP,Wii, Mobile phone, ect
coz sometimes it is better to work backwards to see if the router is putting out a signal first...

And I still don't think you want the same ip on both, as it will clash.

When you log into the router what do you type, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1?
