    Fly thomas cook

going away in a few weeks flying thopmas cook

    there hand luggage is a paltry 43cm x 28cm x 23cm

i think its much less than nearly all airlines even ryan air

what i want to know is has anyone ever been stopped on thomas cook flight because there hand luggage was too big in size (not weight)

tbh i have never ever even had my hand luggage weighed by any airline they have never ever bothered but these small measures for hand luggage with thomas cook make me a bit wary that they may use there smaller size to catch people out and make some dosh

that is all please discuss with your experiences on thomas cook

      Small measures??? Paltry???

Personally I'd tell anyone who gets on a plane that they can have a ~~~~ing carrier bag and thats it. Seriously wtf?

Hand luggage on a plane should be just that, essential items only and nothing more. Some of the jokers getting on planes now with their "hand luggage" are just taking the piss and you wonder why airlines are starting to crack down on it.
You see people getting on a plane now with their mini suitcases and ramming them in the overhead locker. Two of them and the damn thing is full.
What do people honestly take on a plane with them that requires such a bloody big bag?

You get on a plane with your passport and boarding card, you get off and need both of them again. Nothing more, nothing less.
You see that ~~~~ing big hole in a bottom of a plane...thats called a hold and all the other shit should go in there.

why is that then ? how does it effect your day?

are you really that much of a crank

baggage allowance is pretty poor with most airline if it was better in hold no one would need to take as much in hand luggage

why should it ? is their a logic to why it is a must again i cant see why this bothers you are you stelios?

i suppose you like paying booking fee's and extra to sit together too

as usual there is no logic to your arguement

if i had a carrier bag as you suggested it would still need scanning so no time saved there at boarding

as for the hold luggage compartments i have never been on a flight that peoples luggage couldnt fit in even though i have seen them have a squeeze now and again i have never seen any not go in

there are logical reasons why people use hand luggage it is to avoid excess baggage charges especially as now anything over 100ml has to go in your suitcase putting a lot more weight in your suitcase. suncreams, after suns ect can all increase your weight a lot

and before you say buy them abroad then tell me why the ~~~~ should i ?

if i get good deals here why should i pay more than neccesary to a foreign economy for something cheaper at home

i paid over ?400 for my flights i expect to be able to get my luggage there and back without being charged

my hand luggae size is well within the limits and is allowed on every other airline i have travelled on even ryanair who love charges apart from this one

which is the reason i am asking a question in which some people like lainie can answer in a helpful manner

i didnt ask for your opinion and your love of airline profiteering i asked if anyone had any experience with thomas cook and their unusually small hand luggage size

as you have nothing of note to say regarding can you stick to the topic please

i have never ever had my hand luggage weighed anywhere but i do always try to stick to limit especially now you cant bring liquid over as i did used to fill the hand luggage with spirits in the good old days

but when it changed i did a few year back buy a couple of regulation size hand luggage cases which fit in all the baskets you see for hand luggage size

apart from thomas cook which is why i ask the question it is not really the weight of the luggage i can keep it under it is the size im wondering on how strict they are and if i need new cases

So if you're taking over ?2000 worth of cameras & lenses with you, will you really trust it with the baggage handlers, or would you rather keep it all with you so it's safe & not damaged/lost at the other end?

@Thered, just swiped these off another site...

Hi we just flew into Toronto 2 weeks ago with Thomas Cook and they didnt even check our carry on luggage (weight or size) we had 3 big ruck sacks and a laptop case plus a stroller. They didnt even ask how many bags we had just checked our checked in luggage. (we flew from Gatwick) I wouldn't worry too much about the size as long as its not too over the top!

We are back in Canada and here's what happened with the "Carry On/Hand Luggage".
We flew from Toronto to Gatwick with AirTransat in an Airbus with 3 rows of 3 seats, very cramped and no fresh air swivel nozzles overhead. The computer wheelie bag was accepted no problem and despite it meeting size regulations, it was a tight fit in the overhead storage compartment.
We returned from Glasgow where T1 was nice and cool but the check in for Thomas Cook was in T2, a hundred yards away. This "terminal" is like a big portable classroom which feels rather temporary and was boiling hot, despite it being around only 17C outside. The check in person looked at my wife's soft carry on baggage and didn't even weigh it. She took one look at my little wheelie computer case, asked that I place it on the scale and then told me it was over the 5Kg allowance and would cost ?70 in excess charges! Our only alternate was to move aside out of the way and take just about everything out of the small case and redistribute it in our 2 other checked baggage which was still under the 20 KG allowance for each case. When all luggage was reweighed we still had to pay ?10 for the computer case that only had my netbook and some lighter electronic gadgets in it. I couldn't even pay the check in person and had to go to T1 to the TC desk!
The Thomas Cook Boeing aircraft (2 rows of 3 ) was much better than the AirTransat Airbus. The legroom as so huge that the fold down table was too far in front! There were fresh air nozzles and the overhead storage compartments were so deep they swallowed my computer case.
In conclusion......I like to take my computer wheelie bag on flights because of the huge distances in many airports to and from the gates. Gatwick even tell you it's a 20 minute walk to the farthest away gates! The bag is great for carrying stuff that I would never put in checked baggage such as netbook, video camera, batteries, meds and because of its shape I can place my wife's soft canvas bag on it when I'm pulling it along. That allows her to deal with all the printed boarding passes, passports etc without hauling a bag along on her little shoulders. Thomas Cook weigh anything that looks heavy so be advised that if you are over your allowance of 20 Kg checked and 5Kg hand YOU WILL PAY ?10 per Kg.

@ cronus not sure what your prob is. people take hand luggage if on a short holiday to avoid paying for a case to take and they are quite bloody right. after i pay for my holiday i think its shocking you are charged for luggage. everyone should get 20kgs free. airlines make a bloody fortune dont let them kid you.

i buy a couple of bottles of water at the shop next to duty free so i have something to drink when i get off the plane and wait for my luggage and i dont think i need to justify that to anyone.

              stop being so cranky

Lainie I don't have a problem and not being cranky.

Lets put this as plain as I can.

The common consensus is that people do it to AVOID paying extra. Fair enough, never done it myself but each to their own.

Now take that common consensus and multiply it by a couple of hundred thousand passengers every year. Tick tock tick tock,is it sinking in yet!!

The plain and simple fact is that people have been abusing the hand luggage quota for years now. I find it highly hypocritical and amusing that the people who have been abusing it are now suddenly up-in-arms about the fact that the airlines are fighting back.
They caused the bloody problem in the first place and if they hadn't have took the piss for so long then none of this would have happened!!

The more it carries on then the smaller and smaller hand luggage sizes will become. Which,in my opinion, wouldn't be a bad thing.

its human instinct to try and pay less, whatever its for,we all do it,and given half a chance we would always opt for a cheaper alternative, but not a worse service
that alternative has been the charter flight to sunnier climates etc
recently the cost of oil has seen the cheap tickets dissapear, people are getting pished about this, the airlines on the other hand have to try and offset this extra cost, and one way is to start bringing in extra charges for all sorts of things which back in the day were free,,5 years ago if an airline decided to measure your cabin baggage and charge you if its over a certain size no one would fly with them, now its standard practice with most of them, and its not restricted to budget airlines, virgin are one of the worst, and are deffo not a budget airline,,my parents fly to ireland frequently and will on every occasion only take hand luggage,,they like to visit regularly and can only afford to do so due to the cheap budget flights, but once they start taking cases etc that cheap budget deal no longer exists, you might aswell book a scheduled flight
cronus how on earth do you abuse the hand luggage quota ?
                  when i fly i have my ?1500 nikon camera and lens/i pod/iphone
various other anti boredom odds and sods/mini scrabble etc etc etc, this all takes up space and i use up my space as im entitled to,its got absolutely nothing to do with abusing the allowance as i also have a case in the hold

Stats? The whole post is just plain stupid because its rhetorical.

You answered your own question fella.

I ain't backing anything up with facts because the facts are plain to see.
Passengers take the piss=passengers get penalised.

Do you think I like the fact that I'm paying a premium because of you free-loaders? No I don't but what you gonna do about it?

You wanna load everything but the kitchen sink in your hand luggage then expect to be stopped and pay for it. Same as I have to because of your ignorant attitude.

If you don't like it then don't fly. Don't go abroad on holiday and go to Rhyll.

just spoke to ashleigh, she has just had to buy a new cabin crew case as tam cook didnt supply this years staff (she did work there last yr from april to oct ie summer months) with cabin crew cases. her case is 51cm high.
they also didnt get new uniforms either. they got given the ones that were handed back at the end of the summer season flights in oct 2010.
