OFF TOPIC:- BUT PARTLY RELEVENT.
About a year ago, got a phone call at 1 am - my thick mate in his spanking new van has a flat tire, yeah and, the thick coont that wooded it out has binned the jack! Call the AA - no can do 1 AM not meant to be in van
Had he been in works time, no problem, went out get jack from work, sorted it, took jack back. Got home, some tawt has parked over my drive.
Parks the van on the last free space and yellow line behind, parks close to car in front as nothing can park behind - double yellow line.
Next moring 10 am, some coont has parked behind my van, i'm too close to car in front, car behind too close.
Starts engine, no one appers after 1 min. Selects reverse thrust *CRUNCH* - forward thrust <turns wheels> selects reverse thrust *CRUNCH* - the corner shop man appers - think his name is 'Jo Daki' and says, you have damaged my vechile i have it on CCTV i'll call the police,
So you have evidence of your vechile illegally parked, using your iillegal voyager cam - and that star shape on your number plate, not possable it was me, go ~~~~ off
Spoke to mate few days later, it was his wife that 'starred' his number plate when he did it to her, my mate, got him a new number plate, that he never fitted!
ON TOPIC:-
So what if you break down or crash when you shounlt be out?

My work fitted a tracker in my van recently. Apparently to monitor if its being used outside of working hours.
Anyway, noticed part of the dash was loose, removed a panel that fell off in my hands and there it was the tracking device.
Its usually located behind the dashboard somewhere, normally behind the clocks/speedo. In my case i can just disconnect the main lead going into the tracking device. But again im not 100% sure if after disconnecting it my company will get a tampering message on there system. With my tracker, it used GPRS so there is a simcard in the device that sends information to the company. I could just pull out this sim card.
Oh and dont forget, trackers record your overal mileage travelled. Therefore if it dont match your clocks mileage on a service/inspection then expect a few eye brows raised and/or disciplinary action.Last edited by j4g3d; 25 June, 2011, 21:23.Comment

My old boss also paid to have the works mobile phone tracked. He could request a text which gave the 6 figure grid reference where the phone was at any time. Just in case a worker lent his van out or parked the van up and skived off. If he phoned and no one answered or returned his call it was classed as a discilpinary. During working hours he could then tell if you were with the van or not.Comment

Yep we use the Masternaught tracking system at work.
Each driver has a key that identifies who is driving.
It automatically sends a message when the driver exceeds any speed limit by 10%.
It also knows the employees home address.
Once you get to your home address it logs the time and if the vehicle moves from that address "out of working hours!" again it will send a message.
We have all had to sign a form saying we agree to be tracked and the info to be used and stored under the data protection act.
If they beleive we are engaged in criminal activity they must have a member of the police with them to allow any investigation.
Under the data protection act your home address just shows up on the system as "Home" with no visible address.
The reason for installing them is to prove to the clients that we have actually attended site and when , how long for etc.
Also to stop the Company being liable for benefit in kind tax for allowing out of ours personal use of a company van.
The idea being if the employee contines to use the van for private use they will simply inform the tax office and that employee will be taxed accordingly.
All of this and the desciplinary action that will follow.
The lads have tried diffrent ways to get round the system.
GPS Jammers, just make you dissapear of the system with no signal which shows up as a sytsem fault.
Taking the fuse out does the same, but shows up as a posible tamper fault.
Placing magnets either side of the unit appears to have an adverse effect on the unit.
Its all been tried and at the end of the day, if have nothing to hide then its not a problem being tracked.
If i want to use the van out of hours to pick something up from ebay etc, then i simply ask my manager and the answer is normally yes if i put fuel in!
he has access to the tracking system, so if any questions are asked then it was approved use.
The only thing i have had to adjust is my speed as i no long break the speed limits after getting a couple of bollockings!
Saves a fortune in fuel if you stick to them,

all of our works vans and trucks have tracker fitted, have done for many years now but i detest them. they use them just to catch us out, where as personally i think there should be a law where they can only be used to find out where the van is if its stolenPS3= krazylegz120282

Our trucks have trackers on them but to be honest couldn't give a ~~~~. If gaffer don't like the way I do my job tough shit...prove that I am useless!
On a lighter note during the snow one of the trucks lost the antennae due to the snow build up on top of the cab...when cab heated up snow dropped down and took antennae with it. Duly reported in defects and lo and behold gaffer not giving a shit.
Nice one me thought
