A weird question on this forum, but need HELP!

I bought a house in 1999 and payed deposit via cheque to halifax morgages. The bank accounts Barclays and the account was shut down in 2003.

I'm going through a court procedure and need to show that I made the payment of deposit and regular monthly payments for my mortgage. I have the record of some of the regular mortgage payments which is absolutley fine and will do fine but I need the record of cheque payment from my account of deposit for the house.

Now, I spoke to Halifax mortgage and they said they only have cheque number and not the name of person who made cheque payment because of data protection they can only keep details for upto 6 years. I spoke to Barclays but they said the same that because the accounts closed in 2003 they cannot get any record because it was over 6 years ago and they can only keep record for 6 years.

I dont know what to do, please can someone here help me out. I have searched the internet but can't find the answer, the bank isnt exactly helping me.

Did halifax send you an annual statement of payments etc at the time? If they did you should have kept them as they are as good as receipts or if you have the original bank transaction document at the time the mortgage was started, this should show the deposit was made. But I've no idea how you can actually prove that you made/paid the deposit.

I dont see how they can be asking you for something that they must know you cant provide,i would pass the buck to them to find the proof from your details
