what sites do you peops use when buying a car?

I have used Autotrader, motors.co.uk, and touched on pistonheads, but am curious if there is any more sites that people would recommend?

          ebay, autotrader, gumtree

If you are after something specific / special then see if there is a owners club

i used ebay twice to buy cars no problem you can check them out before you buy and if your bidding and won then dont like the look of the car when you go to colect dont buy the ~~~~er

its easy and you get a lot of choice sellers like to get shot too so if you go to view with cash chances are they will sell before auction closes

simply because there is no guarantee winning bidder will turn up

I've been looking for a car myself, stuck with ebay & autotrader. Looked at gumtree, but there was a distinct lack of details on most of the listings... Enough to put me off buying any of them, & I know my cars.

Luckily I know a guy from a dealership. He's found me a car that matches my requirements (very specific requirements) & offering it to me at a price even Scrooge couldn't refuse. Just got to wait 2 weeks for it to come in part ex.

If you're looking at the lower price bracket, like I was, it might be worth talking to a few dealerships. If it's 2004 or older that you're looking for they just auction them off, so you could get a bargain without the hassle.

I allways buy my cars from car auctions I keep them for about 18 months to 2 years and then sell them privately and I nearly allways get my money back.

Was looking for a car last year and tbh auction was hardly saving anything over ebay/autotrader. With so many non-trade private buyers, the good cars tend to fetch premium price. If you can get in on a trade only days then there is still money to be saved.

thanks for the answers lads, some great info there. Would be tempted with an auction, what comeback do I have with these, say if the car breaks down at the first roundabout?
It is doing my head in looking at cars now, if tractors were economical, I would buy one of them and be done for the next 20 years.
                              Thanks again for the answers.
