LCD or Plasma

Hi all,

I know this has been asked atleast 4 times before but they were date back to 2008. We know that the Plasma technology has improved so much since then.. I have had an LCD and very happy with it..

I now want to buy a new TV and been looking at prices for a 3D ready smart TV. The prices of Plasma compared to LCDs are at par. I have read a lot about pros and cons and now want advice on what should I do.

I want to by TV screen over 42" and opinions and advice from members will be valuable.

you can still get "screen burn" on plasma TVs and they cost nearly twice as much to run(this may not be an issue) plasmas grip on the large screen market is slipping now LCD technology is catching up also plasma screens being glass are more prone to accidental damage especially if young children are in the house.big plasmas do look impressive but I"d still stick with LCD.on another tack if you have a lot of older equipment(as I have ) watch the connectivity as some makers are a bit tight with scart sockets with some sets having none.

Thanks mate, I did notice on my visit to Comet earlier that Samsung tele did not have a single scart.. ..

Depends what your priorities are.

I wanted the best possible picture, so I bought a Plasma.

Was told once anything over 32 inches get a plasma even though all mine are lcd.
Guess i was concerned about image burn etc

thats the only thing Im worried about is the "image burn".. but good price is very tempting..

Most of the new plasma's have image burn protection built in and the option to run image burn cleaning
I agree with nara if you want the best possible picture get a plasma, I have had a panny plasma for 2 years no screen burn picture is spot on

Buy a Plasma, much better. I have a Panasonic Analogue 42" Monitor, yes Analogue!!! And because I bought quality it still holds it's own today. Black is black and whites are as White as Daz. Yes it costs more to run, in the same way a BMW costs more to run than a Mondeo.

No screen burn, been hammered by the Xbox and was a shop Demo model when bought 6/7 years ago.

I have a panasonic plasma and can confirm screen burn is not an issue, even if left on pause for a couple of hours, the only disadvantage is a glass screen will get reflections and a plastic lcd will not

I much prefer my Plasma TV piccie to the LCD - my plasma is an LG.

My dad has a samsung plasma tv and I know its a small thing but it makes it all better - his samsung Galaxy S9000 connects wirelessy to the tv. He can watch vids and pics from his phone on the tv and vice versa.

I have a Panny G20 42" Plasma and i have no issue with screen burn , as mentionded it has burn protection built in.
Black is black and picture quality is bang on.

LCD is catching up, but i have yet to see an LCD with a picture to match A G20 Panny.

As for the worry about glass screens, mine has a toughned glass screen that withstand a fair old knock before it breaks,

Put it this way it would take a bit more than a flying wii controller.

As for refections, the screen comes with an anti glare coating.
My TV is in a south facing sunny front room and i can assure you its less of an issue on the Plasma than my old Panny CRT.

As for backwards compatability (old Scart connectivity), my panny still has them.

If you want the best Plasma on the market, then do your homework and read owner reveiws, what HIFI etc and make your own mind up.

All i will say is i made the best choice for my earned money with a cracking picture that everyone who comes round coments on how clear, sharp and spot on the colours are.

With 600htz , there are no motion blur issues either.

Go on buy a Panny, you know it makes sense

Got a 50" samsung it does suffer screen burn but not really a issue as been said you have the black and white scroller sorts it out and picture is brighter than lcd..........

Panny Plasma's are bullet proof.

you can stump up a whole heap of cash and get a pioneer, but in general its Panasonic.

Had a 50 inch panosonic plasma for 3 yrs and it was ex demo and have had no probs with image burn and the pic is one of the best I have seen. Stick with plasmas I have a couple of mates with LCD and no comparison
