Random bank question

I cashed a cheque on Friday about 10:30am because I cashed it early in the morning does that count as a day ? Thanks

The day is classed as end of trading that day for the bank..usually midnight

R u sure m8 ? A few people have said it does count as a day if you get it in before 12 o clock dinner time

If you mean you paid a cheque in then your question really is of no consequence. A cheque goes into the clearing system and can take UP TO x amount of days to clear. There is no defined time at all. I believe that even with the likes of Halifax/Nationwide (I think those 2 are correct) where on the cheque book cover it states when a cheque will clear depending on the paying in day, it is no more than the date it will show cleared on your account. I have had that happen to me ( a cheque showing as cleared on my account) only for the bank to later recall it as 'paid in error' because supplier of cheque/bank paid it in error.


Also most day terms used by banks are 'clear days'. This area of British banking is such a mess. I can transfer money to Spanish account quicker than from a Lloyds TSB UK to Santander UK

Yes it does count as a day but the next 2 do not being Sat & Sun. Clearance can take between 2 & 5 days depending which Bank you are with and the type of account you have.

Ye I know it's 3 to 5 working days just wondered if the Friday counted as a day because I cashed it early

if you cash a cheque fold it before giving it over. was told this ages ago by someone that works in a bank. it cant go thru their machine if its folded and has to be hand processed which takes them longer. dont know if this is still the case tho.

It wasn't folder it went threw the machine I watched her I never asked that im asking i cashed the cheque at 10.30 am because I cashed it early will that count as a working day

What you can also do is run a magnet along the numbers on the cheque. It is magnetised ink and numbers are not recognised after magnet is used.

i know you didnt i was trying to tell you it takes longer to go thru their systems if its folded and therefore would take more working days to clear than normal.

It all depends on which bank you are with and what type of bank account you have. They all have slightly different rules and you should be able to see terms and conditions on the bank's web site.
