    General query

I have a part time job as a cleaner and one of the hoovers the wire is showing threw my supervisor put blue tape over it, is this aloud or is this not because of health and safety ? Shouldn't the cable be replaced, just wondering out of curiosity

Refuse to use to use the hoover under the health and safety at work act 1974. It is illegal to do anything in the workplace which jeopardises your health or the health of people around you. This includes your actions and your lack of actions.

Rien, when you quote health and safety just remember that every person is their own safety officer. As you could see it was a blue wire was it damaged? The cable can get damaged by constantly dragging the hoover over the cable so care should be taken by you but the bottom line is that it is entirely up to you whether you use it or not. Be diplomatic about approaching the manager or supervisor on the issue and inform him/her that you don't feel safe working with the damaged flex.

how can you not feel safe though? unless the vacuum is made entirely of metal and you're tw@tting about in the buff, wheres the threat?
if you're just looking for an excuse to be lazy, just say so
