they only last about 4 days if not used in a tank as people don't keep them wet enough and burn the filler material causing a burnt taste and blocking them up, in a tank they can last 7 to 10 days of heavy use but then as the heating coil becomes bunged up with carbon they lose flavour and vapour also the filler material gets waxed up causing them to flood and at ?1.50ish it's best to bin em, however some people flush them through and get a bit longer.
The atomisers in the tanks with your kit will be gradually going off as carbon builds up on the coil, but yours cost a lot more to replace, however they can be soaked over night in vodka or IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to help slow the carbon build up and they can also be dry burned to crack off the carbon build up, be careful not to do the dry burn for more than a few seconds at a time as there's a danger of burning out the coil.
