I use a the excellent forum********, and they have a goal of $1500 per month donation which they seem to always raise. I sometimes donate nearly always after a good link [it just seems fair as I don't upload], but to be honest I don't think I have here as it's not in your face at all. I think DK could do a better job of at least reminding us that it can't possibly be run on fresh air, and that a ?5 donation once in a while is pretty much morally correct IMHO.

EDIT Point in case, I can't even find out how to donate here! I got my Openbox info from here, my 500c info and also other cable info for Pace. That kind of info is worth a donation from anyone/everyone of the regulars that have not uploaded info. Leechers will never donate, and to my mind that's not what should be concentrated on. Regulars who can afford it should support DK

      donate---> http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/donate/

df started this forum up as a free forum and it will remain that way, dk is all about help etc, as far as i know the forums expenses are just about covered with a bit of advertising and the donations it recieves, if this changes and df is getting out of pocket to much then it may change, but for now and hopefully for the forseeable furure dk will remian just as it is freeeeeeeeeeeeee

Why so much worry about leechers- This is a great forum with some brilliant regular contributers(we all know them) so why be bothered about a few people who dont contribute.

                      The age old argument

Me thinks its more trouble than its worth ... who wants the job of deleting / banning all these accounts you will soon get fed up of it ... admin and mods have enough keeping on top of the spammers (may they all rot in hell) ...

when DF started this site i am sure the goals he had in mind have been meet he will be very satisfied with what DK has grown into ... and maybe proven a point.

like a lot of people ... i donated in my 1st season on DK ... am also sure that the costs of purchasing the vbull licence have been covered and am also sure that the running costs of the hosting are been made ... so don't think you need to worry about DF been out of pocket ... charging for entry will open a whole new kettle of fish ... and cause a lot of problems ... also goes against the idea of sharing and helping others just because you can and want to ... is that not what we all liked about DK ...

then there is the nature of forums ... every one robs from one place or another to post on their favourite forum ... and DK is no exception , not many forums have 100% original content. So who is going to join a forum that charges for entry when most if not all content can be found on the interweb for free. Its the members that make a place ...

as Dk has some really good solid members ... why get so heated over the ones that don't take part ... there loss would you not say

                      anyway enough from me

Ps ... donations should be left for the individual to decide ... however that said will never ask for them on my forums ... goes against my belief system ... but thats what makes the world a great place to live in ... we are all different

                        Leaches

                        Hi Guys,
Reading your comments on this thread, I am alarmed as a newbie that there is so much "talk" about leaches and the like.
                        I have posted for some help.....am I then a leach ?

I thought that the idea behind these forums was for the more knowledgable persons to give help and assistance where it is needed to newcomers and friends.

Reading most of the previous comments on this thread remind me years ago, when I first used a cb radio, it had upper high bands, and one day whilst on the cb I intercepted a conversation between Ham radio enthusiast's, they told me in no uncertain terms that I was not welcome, and did I know how much the cost and time was to learn the knowledge that goes into Ham radio ?
Talk about create a divide on the then airways !
Sorry if this shames the members who do not impart with their knowledge once gained, but thanks in anticipation to those that do.
                        regards

newbies asking for help are welcomed here mate. leeches as I understand it, post nonsense to activate their download priveleges and then never return. Others (and they know who they are) seem to think that pcertain people ask too many questions and that they are leeching knowledge. these people forget that they were learning once too

                            Everyone has to start somewhere

Thanks for the reply, and as I have said everyone has to start somewhere, I started, as directed in the newbie room.
Not realising my request was in the wrong room/topic, I posted it in the one advised.
I was hoping for advice on how to "tune" the Spiderbox 9000.
Seems I cannot receive hardly anything and might be due to having wrong Frequency ? on most channels, but what should the channel readings be to receive ?
Thanks again for your reply, I will wait and see if there is any knowledge out there for these satellite receivers and any forthcoming advice.
                            regards
