my reading of the rules of the road regarding car joining motorway from slip road 'is if car on motorway and you see a car trying to join motorway. if possable move into second lane to let motor out if you cannot move into second lane car joining motorway should slow down till you pass. the amount of near misses ive had is unreal' plus wierd and wonderful hand gestures of annoyance when i try to follow the rules. the sliproad motor feels it has the right of way am i wrong .
slip road whats right

The slip road to a motorway or dual carriage way should be treated as a give way for the vehicle joining. The vehicle on the main carriage way always has right of way and is in no way obliged to move over if they do not feel it safe to do so. Even if the description in the highway code cannot be understood it is basic common sense that you do not stop on the main carriage way of a motorway -
it is easier for the car on the motorway to make a space for the card joining from sliproad.
the driver already on motorway has an all-round better view of whats going on and should be easier to help the car joining.
the driver in the car joining will be relying on a side mirror, trying to judge speed of cars of middle and left lanes while watching the road ahead,
he will also proberly be accelerating hard to get car up to speed for motorway...Comment

Straight from the Highway code.
Driving on the motorway

Joining the motorway. When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should
- give priority to traffic already on the motorway
- check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
- not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder
- stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
- remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking

Today when joining the M60 I hard to brake to join the motorway cause some idiot would not move over even though the middle lane had loads of space. For 2 more junctions the idiot never moved over at all until he was leaving the motorway
Thats what pisses me off about joining the motorwaysigpic
