QMS - vodafone upgrades - A scam or not?

I received a phone call albiet a cold call from a company called QMS who said they worked on behalf of Carphone Warehouse and do the Vodafone upgrades. They said that as my contract was up for renewal I could have an upgrade. They offered me the phone i wanted and with a reasonable contract. If i was unhappy with any part of it i could cancel within seven days.

However my contract is not up for renewal as i recently upgraded in June this year. Now thinking that this is just a Vodafone c0ck up, and because I do not pay by direct debit they will not have my bank details I said ok.. I will check the paperwork over when it arrives and see it all looks legit. I will also contact Vodafone to see if they can see whether any extra line has been taken out on my account. If still all is good i will just go and sell the phone.

I did google these people and although some threads say they are a legit company doing these Vodafone upgrades many say they are just scammers but nobody had written any details of any specific instances where they were scammed, most seemed to be jumping on the band wagon as they were in fact cold called by this QMS company.

Has anybody here had any dealings with them or actaully had an upgrade through them. I have read the info on the net about them but am looking for specific instances or information that would make me either change my mind and refuse to accept the new phone and cancel immediately, or, i should accept the phone and the new contract and then sell it on.

Before you ask, I have already called vodafone and spoekn with one of their muppets who advised me to cancel it. When i asked how this QMS company obtained all my vodafone details he did not answer, now thats a surprise. He said they were just after my bank details but if Vodafone do not have them and i did not pass them on then they will not have them anyway. I do not may by direct debit, I always pay by card and only when i am talking to a real person at their end, not a soddiing automated payment service.

QMS are a third party company who work on behalf of the Carphone Warehouse calling customers who took out a Vodafone connection with them (not directly through Vodafone).

An excerpt from the vodaphone forum written by Paul a Vodafone mod on there.
They contact these customers after their renewal date passes to see if they've upgraded - if they haven't then the upgrade is processed via the Carphone Warehouse again.

I doubt Carphone Warehouse are that closely linked to these. It's possible they buy customer details relating to contact number & contract start dates.

I used to get calls from people about 4 months before I was due an upgrade with '3'. They were not acting for '3', just bottom feeding & trying to get new sign-ups... Not upgrading.

You will probably find a new phone arrives with a new contract through Voda, but not tied to your existing account.
It then becomes a battle to cancel the contract as they will tell you Voda have to do it, then Voda will tell you QMS have to do it.

If you fail to pay the contract they will block the phone & SIM, report it on your credit record & hunt you down through the courts.

maybe its just the cynic in me but in my experience theres always something dodgy about cold callers. some w@nker pushing sh1te you dont need on you always stinks. if they had a good/better product or deal people would buy it without the push.

Distance selling regulations will come into force so if they have signed you up for a new contract just send everything back (recorded delivery) with a letter saying you have changed your mind.

            probably the best bet

myself I cancelled a contract with S K Y after the new dish was installed and the two boxes were set up about 6 months ago because the phone and internet was going to be a problem.
they said they would collect the boxes within a fortnight
still laying in my hallway as I type

If you do recieve the phone then sign a stupid name like M Mouse or something similar and let them try and prove you took delivery of it.

Or just refuse the delivery, it will be sent back to them... No phone, no contract.

I once refused a delivery, guess what happened after refusal of a parcel??..

Post man recorded as delivered and I am still getting the invoices

I have identified the post man and I have reported him to the police and sorting office to check the signature, nothing has happened yet.

well no surprises on this one, no parcel has arrived for me to refuse. So I assume they were talking BS and were probably just going to try and stitch me up..
