Stephen king is so boring to read. It's all build up with two good pages at the end.

The only books of his I liked where Carrie & The Running Man.

James Herbert has some good books out there. I really liked '48

But I prefer Brian Lumley. Ok, he moves more in the vampire/werewolf direction. But his books are a lot more gripping with the action.

Try starting with 'A covern of Vampires', which is a group of short stories.
Sadly the Dream series isn't fully available in e format, I love them books.

If you like horror with a twist, then I'd recommend, "Tim Lebbon",
a few of his books have been made into movie adaptations,

The Cabin in the Woods, & 30 Days of Night are a couple you may know.

you'll find some of his books in the ebook section.

Joe Hill is decent as well. He's SK's son but he doesn't have the tendency to go overboard with descriptive passages the way King does.

"Harvest Home" by Thomas Tryon is an excellent novel. Unfortunately it's an oldie and not available for e readers.

Some of John Saul's earlier novels are good. I like "Nathaniel" and "Suffer the Children" quite a bit. Most of his novels are too depressing for my taste, though. His characters live in cruel worlds and are usually miserable before the supernatural stuff starts to happen, and his books almost never have happy endings.
