Not my year at all - advice please

    Hi guys

I bought a macbook last weekend from the local car boot. Guy must have wiped the drive to protect his data which seems logical, managed to install an os on it, now it says stolen, the guy even gave me his phone number so everything seemed legit but it just rings out now. I know what people might think, oh yeah pull the other one, but it cost me ?300 to find this happening. Now to be honest i'm seriously upset by this, do I take it to the police, i'm worried they might not accept my story even tho it's true, wouldn't mind the original owner getting it back tbh as I know how I would feel. Don't know what to do any help or advice would be great

Ring the number he gave you and ask him to tell you what's what.

    THE TRUTH
    The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

Wait till the next time the boot sale is on and go back and see if you can find him. If you do go to the police and it is stolen as shady said your out of pocket for ?300.

being a tight wad i wouldnt want to lose ?300 so i would try and find a workround the mac book being stolen and just use it, does it do anything or is it locked completely??

chances are he insured it sold it and told whoever that it was stolen to get another

The guy didn't wipe it mate, it was probably wiped by the genuine owner remotely using the iCloud..
A don't know much about Mac security but as far as i am aware the owner as a last resort can access the Mac after its stolen, they can nuke the hard drive and enter a password that locks the Mac permanently using a iPhone.

How to Remotely Wipe a Mac

A would hand it in to the police and give them all the info you can..
A know your ?300 down but that's a bitter pill you will have to swallow, if a was handing over ?300 at a car boot sale a would have insisted on much more detail, no disrespect mate but a would never have bought a Mac at a car boot sale, it just doesn't seem the kinda place where someone would sell a genuine Mac..
