Not really that keen on whisky but I do enjoy the occasional Glayva.

So guys/gals if u are a whisky drinker whats your fav.
A worked in a whisky shop for a couple of years and it was possibly the best job i ever had, apart from the free whisky for sampling (and there were dozens of bottles) it was also one of the most interesting and fun jobs ever.
A used to love customers like yourself, they would come in with their partners and the women always said they hated whisky.
Usually after giving them a few free drams they could name at least 2 types of whisky that they now liked.
There is a whisky for everyone as the industry has really changed and geared up for all tastes.

A like a smooth mellow whisky like Glengoyne or Auchentoshan (a know someone on DK who also likes one of those tipples), they are triple distilled and with a dash of water are simply superb..
If am feeling ambitious a go for a whisky called Poit Dhubh (pronounced "Potch Goo") and its blended version called Teh Bheag (pronounced "Te Beg" or teabag as we called it sometimes).
Both are unusual, they are smooth but give you a lovely glow, they are not chill filtered so when you add water they turn cloudy and then your head turns cloudy..

If there are any whisky drinkers on DK then here is a little tip on a very good buy.
Its a cheap blend that you probably have ignored as they managed to put it in a crap bottle, although its been around since 1940 it came to fame when a deal with the Co Op was done, the Co Op was angry at Glens or Grants pricing and contract terms so they turned to Burn Stewart and done a volume agreement for a blend called "Scottish Leader".
Scottish Leader was a good blend originally done by Ian MacMillan on a tight budget and he was mostly confined to use Burn Stewart's flagship malts and a few 3rd party, young grains..
Burn Stewart were worried that the brand may not be up to scratch and it was about to get a lot of publicity so the blend was altered.
This was a master stroke as it pi**** off a lot of tasters who would have labelled it as a cheap bottle of blended gut rot, now they didn't have a clue at what was inside Leader and they still don't know to this day.
There has been rumours and speculation but its well known in the trade that a deal was struck with Glenmorangie to buy their 8 yr old malt in volume.
We got tipped off that 75% of Leader is 8 yr old Glenmorangie, when we tested it at the shop, none of us could tell the difference between the blended Leader and 10 yr old Glenmorangie.

Good man, there are so many good ones that don't break the bank and so many myths about a good and bad whisky.
People assume the more expensive the better, that's the biggest myth of all, i have tried 5yr old malts that are stunning and 18 yr old malts that are utter crap.

We had a Japanese customer who loved visiting Scotland, he was mega rich and would easily spend ?1000 in one day, some of his friends got some really nice gifts when he got home.
We had some bottles that collectors would ask us to sell and one collector handed in a bottle of Bowmore Black 64 edition, he wanted a quick sale so he put a reduced price of ?2000 on it.
My Japanese customer was visiting and saw it and bought it, so a was wrapping it up and he asked what i was doing, i told him we will get it on a premium delivery service so it would arrive in one piece..
He took the bottle and laughed and asked for 3 glasses and popped the cork, a just stood amazed, what a ****in guy.
Ma boss noted it was late afternoon so we shut the doors and tanned the bottle.
The only thing i didn't have the heart to tell him is that imo the whisky was bloody awful, but he was a Bowmore man so for him it was heaven so i lied as it was very generous of him to share..

I will make a list up of some great cheaper whiskies Grumbles and pm you them when a get some time mate ok..
