just got a second hand home phone with caller id function ,came with no instructions ,as they do ,can any one advise as to setting it up ? do i have to pay ? or is it free ,i'm with vm ,rang them but they wasn't very helpful

It costs ?2.25 a month to add to your calling package according to this, if it is available in your area.

thanks guys ,i dont think it would be worth getting ,it's just a few nuisance calls we are getting now and then ,cheers for info....just called vm ,to clarify charges and it seems you do have to pay the extra even though we are on a package ,i asked why mobiles have there number displayed when they call ,seems they have better technology ?

the phone exchanges are ALL dugital, one in m/c was changed to digital in 1994, rumor states
So there is no reason to charge for it

mine at home not paying, eithet my mom, thick friend, fat friend or virmin ir ppi
so no point paying fir it

if you get nusanse calls on bt, you inform them, they set the digital exchange up, so nusanse call press 1 on your phone, then not sure excatly what happens, but they find themselves on receving end of a moderator

you just need to ask about CLi or Call line identification on your line.. some service providers give it free now.

land lines often charge, unless you are on BT the their home privacy option (free) offers it as part of the pack. I know Vermin charge, can't speak for any others.
for a mobile (models differ) its in the settings, and free in my experience. (O2, Orange and Vodaphone)

if you on about a mobile, either post the model or visit the makers, or service providers, help sections.

If I were you do not bother spending a penny, unless it is a silent caller you do not have any choice, but if a person calls at my home address and I do not know him I speak to him as if I have no tongue try to spend enough time possible cccccccckkkkkkkkeeeeeeee I can guarantee they will not call you again it has always worked for me.
