The moon has been moving away from Earth since it's formation. It is believed that, when it first settled into orbit 4.5 billion years ago, the moon was a mere 14,000 miles from the Earth and has been edging away ever since. It is moving away at a rate of about 1.5 inches per year (I think your fingernails grow faster than that) and it will be billions of years before it recedes far enough to have a dire effect on the Earth. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to get closer because there's no stopping that f**ker then.
