2 to go in the house and 4 to sit in the fire engine and wait with engine running

Perhaps there were on the way to a false alarm.

Susspose they could still be on an active shift, even if they left the last to to catch a bus to a fire, 4 is better than none.

I think chill in their engines for a reason..

Instead of the bluds just sitting in a station waiting for jobs.. they go out and parooze local slags in disco pants.. fit a few smoke alarms on ethels house and wait about..
