    Work and employee rights

The wife has been told she must attend a meeting on her day off

Its half an hour meeting they say she will get paid for it 1/2 hour pay

    Surely this is illegal??

It will cost more to get her to work and back, I was under the understanding although i cant find it that if you are required to be in work you need to be paid a minimum amount of hours

2 or 4 maybe? not sure if anyone can help with legislation

If you want the gov line then it's here

Workers' rights to rest breaks at work - length of breaks, how your age affects rest breaks, exceptions to the rules for shift workers, young people, and drivers.

However before refusing flat out has your wife pointed out that

    It's a day off
    It involves traelling time
    It involves travel cost

Maybe if she points out that it may help them come to some arrangement which benefits your wife? Has your wife worked 48 hours a week in the last week, or whatever the period is?, if so then they cannot make her go to work and be in breach of the WTD.

It would also depend what your wifes contract says, in the small print.

Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

Her contract is only 16 hours per week, it says something about working a reasonable amount of overtime if required. She works lots of hours OT

She has no problem going in for a one off meeting but im pretty sure working guidelines somewhere state that if you are called in on an off day or they decide to send you home early because of no work for instance you are entitled too a minimum number of hours 2 or 4 i think

You're maybe thinking of "on call" Red, and it's not really applicable. I can't think of anything, and have never come across minimum paid time in work. Best to negotiate with 'em tbh and ask for refund of full cost of travel time and costs. Oh and it may only be 1/2 hour, but is overtime applicable. Other than that read teh fine print on her contract.

                OK, not that it matters

                1) How much notice has she been given?
                2) will be be active in this meeting?
                3) what happens if she don't attend?
                4) is this a regular day off or just 'don't come in wednesday'?

For example she could have planned with you to go on vacation to Bosnia 6 months ago, non refundable deposit
                who's refunding that.

Justa shame you posted that your car is fixed.

Not been on so it dont matter but

                  1, About a week
2, She went and she spoke
3, She went but apparently nothing but they would have been "FUNNY" she said
4, Twas a Sunday she dont work Sunday, she was in for 50 minutes, twas single time, my time was free

It was a meeting to say lets do better, lets get ques down

Problem as i see it is manager gets bonuses and incentives for keeping waste and hours down.

So employs not enough staff to keep ques down, always ques not just when Xmas its old Netto they run on shoe string

Waste of cking time then. Next time she knows her manager isn't working, and she is, tell her she should arrange a meeting where her manager has to go in on his day off to talk the usual bollox and see how he likes it.

Something that could have been done via PM or vistor message or worse case pinned to notice board.

Hope she got paid for that,

                      Agree with gaston post

                      OFF TOPIC:-

I 'know' some plank that works for B&Q (SJ he trashed a pallet of paint cost them 10,000K UKP), they basically have a warehouse FULL of every B&Q product, they have been told you MUST do a minimum of X number of orders per hour

If nobody brought from B&Q they would have no orders, only busy as/when each store orders stuff

Bit like saying to the fire dept "you have to put out a minimum amount of fires per shift"

Having said that if they get 100 orders they might mean 95% have to be out the door by end of shift.
