Scots 'using chip fat instead of sun cream'

always new scots where tight asses but chip fat

Scots are risking skin cancer by using chip fat, moisturiser and baby oil instead of protective cream, researchers claim.

A survey found that unhealthy sunbathing habits are to blame for Scots having the highest risk of contracting skin cancer in the UK.

One in five polled admitted to 'binge tanning', and a quarter said they used sun lotions with lower than recommended protection.

Four out of 10 Scots also admitted experimenting with their own sun lotions, such as cooking oils and moisturiser.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, which carried out the survey, urged sun bathers to invest in high-factor lotions.

Laura Wilson, a spokeswoman, said: "This is a serious issue. I am worried that people still think the warnings about the sun do not apply to them. In Scotland we have higher rates of melanoma than in Australia.

"Scots tend to think they do not need to use sun creams at home but people must respect the sun at all times and make sure they use a recommended sun protection cream."

The YouGov survey of more than 1,000 people in Scotland found that four out of 10 had experienced blistered or peeling skin after spending too long in the sun.

The RPSGB urged Scots to seek sun protection advice from their local pharmacy.

The spokeswoman said: "They are in an ideal position to give advice on how to prevent sun damage, make sure people get the right protection for their skin and know when and how to apply the right amount safely.

"They can also advise on aftercare treatments if people are suffering from sunburn."

The society advises applying cream with a minimum sun protection factor of 15, staying in the shade during the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm, and wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sun glasses with UV protection.

well when i do venture out in the sun i always wear sunspray of some sort nivea mostly. mind you i went out to breaehead on friday with sandals on, sleeveless t shirt and sunnies.

off i set on my merrily way in me car. got the new mobile i wanted and headed back to the car and mother of gawd it was hurrican weather. not seen rain like that for a long long time. needless to say car was not in the underground car parking bit and it was about 150 yds away. i waited and waited. i had just changed handbags the night before to a lovely fluffy kathy van zeeland one. anyway back to braehead. eventually i think i need to get back to the car. the place was mobbed with people trying to take cover. yes i did have a brolly with me but guess where it was - yip in the car. so off i eventually go towards the car. bearing in mind i got my hair coloured last week and when wet the dye can run down my face (my hairs a burgandy red wine colour). i looked fab even if i do say so myself when i left the house to go to braehead. when i eventually got back to the car i was soaked to the skin. my lovely bag looked like a sodden dead rat, my feet were squelching and yes some dye running down my face (no a lot granted). i got a call on my mobile from a male friend asking me how i was and the 2 of us were howling with laughter. the car was moving i was laughing so much and there were now mini lakes all around the place as it was p*ssing it down. as it was thunder and lightning as well i didnt want to drive so i sat there for 20 mins drying myself off with a t shirt that was in my overnight bag .

my b/f phoned and asked where i was etc and when i told him he said it wasnt raining where he was (bridgeton). he didnt believe me when i said how bad it was. when he came in from work he said it hit where he was 5 mins after coming off the phone to me - but he was inside - buggar!!!

still looking back it was quite funny.

      Brilliant.

As interesting story that is Lainie, it seems to have very little to do with gmb's original post.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.
