Anyone into these?

I've got a couple, one seems dead, but the other powers up ok. The one that works is a hy-gain 2795, which is (according to the web) quite good.

I tried getting the thing going not so long back, with an ariel that came with it... but sadly no joy.

Does anyone know anything about setting these things up?! I understand that you need to tune the ariel or something?!

It's strange, because I had it going a few years ago and it was fine - maybe it's just had it!

Deffo a blast from the past. Used to use these before they became legal on vhf. Keep channel 9 clear for emergencies

Get a SWR meter and tune the antenna, do this by keying over 20 (if its a 40 channel rig) for best results and aim for the coveted 1:1 (completely impossable outside of controlled lab tests but you can still aim )

Ive still got a few live channels over here (14 and 19) mostly and more still on SSB.

Ive however not used mine in a while, im situated in a geagraphic bowl so i cant get any reception without a decent 120' mast to get me clear. i can transmit with a burner, but it only allows one way which is kind of pointless.

Ive got several different rigs (AM, FM and SSB) a few amature band trancievers (12m, 20m and 80m) and a couple of marine band tranceivers. even got an ancient home built valve driven tranciever that i built with my grandfather eons ago (a valve driven ocilloscope too as my first project)
A stack of different antennas, meters, dummy loads, burners, power supplies etc.
Used to be big into it for a while but like i said without errecting a mast or getting on short wave im essentialy limited by what i can recieve.

Once you get it up and running you'll love it, its mostly the hardcores that are still on so expect to be made to feel like a fool initialy from elitist fags with echo mikes and key beeps, stick at it though and you'll eventualy find people that are above all the bullshit and you can have a laugh with.
