What he is saying is 4 is the multiplication of the next number minus 1.

One of our friends came up with this (if you can work it out)

          4, 14, 52, 204, 812, 3244, 12972

Just remember 4 (Not allowed to say more...orders from the boss )
          That is the only thing I can think of too. Just use the 4 to multiply every number and subtract 4. This gives you;

          (4)
          14
          52
          204
          812
          3244
          12972

I don't think that is the answer though. I think there has to be a typo by the teacher.

              whats the answer?

I wrote it down as i was heading to work and wrote down 206 instead of 204 which gave me the following:

              I?(n4-2) I?(n4-4)

In that I is the itteration and N is the preceeding number which gives:

              4x4-2 =14
              14x4-4 = 52
              52x4-2 = 206
              206x4-4 = 820
              820x4-2 = 3278
              3278x4-4 = 13108

And so forth, i was well chuffed with myself till i got home and realised id been foiled by thinking it was 206 instead of 204 and cant fathom what the formula really is

Found out that it was a typo like we all thought and the formula is actually x4-4

As expected the kids got it wrong but the teacher didn't mark them on it
