any ideas on dealing with hard water, my kettle are lasting less than 6 months because of build up i hate toi think what the washing machine is like

well you could always use a brita filter for the kettle and boil up some vinegar in it every few weeks to descale it but other than that, use calgon in yer washing machine or just move somewhere where the water is soft... sorted

excellent ideas from the zapmister..! A cheaper alternative than Calgon though is to use 1kg of Soda Crystals every 6 months on hottest wash setting to keep it sweet (no clothes though just an empty wash)..
As for your kettle, britta filter or use cheap bottled water (5p a bottle from Tesco)..

You can buy boiler inhibitor and put it in the system yourself. There are services which drain the whole system and then use a pump to clean it before applying the inhibitor but it'll probably cost a few hundred for that.
We had something similar to the Eddy link about a decade ago. It did nothing. They might have improved now though.Comment
