Live IRC Chat! good idea or bad ?

i was just thinking....which can never normally be a good thing but maybe im onto something !

that 1 of the only thing's this site doesn't have is live IRC chat, or chat room feature ,and if it has i havnt found it yet

i use irc rooms on many different sites for a verity subjects

but i would love to see a real chat room feature here , i know you have the shout box but its not the same

maybe this has been brought up before i dont know i have been away a while , but do any of you guys think this is a good idea ?

But i think the whole technical scene here would be great to interact with people on a live basis ,it makes great topics and loads to talk about

ok thanks i just read that so what was the verdict in the end?
is there already a room you guys connect too

there are many free flash and java clients available 2 embed in a matter of seconds id prefer 2 use an embedded room that way you can always access while your not on home pc with irc client available

all they would have 2 do is sign up 4 free irc chat room make a sticky thread and embed the script n the room would be great

The problem with IRC is its waaaay to technical for an average user.

Not that its actualy any more or less technical from the chatbox to be fair but its definately viewed as such.

Seeing the sheer ammount of technical spam of part/join, netsplits,
whoever sets mode +v on someone
admin sets mode +m
/amsg spam
network sysop spam
chanserv /authserv going down
XDCC bot spam
DCC transfer requests

Having to register an nick using arcaic command line syntax or wind up ghost killed in some cases

figuring out wtf a k-line and g-line means

Setting up an actual client... with associated initialisation scripts like a "perform"

They all take their toll and ultimately intimidate newcommers who are only used to aim, Y! and msn.

Pity really cause multiplayer notepad is a whole lot of fun, i used to spend ages on several different servers, but it seems most people have moved on, all the channels i used to regular or mod at through the 90s are either dead or have like 3 active users left.

Pitty really cause i was godly at #idlerpg too
Id love to see a #digital-kaos on some network, but its only a select handfull of users that would wind up using it.

you dont need 2 worry about all that in modern day chat rooms
especially the flash ones its all graphic interface not identify or all that
i own a sports site which is purely live sport talk when i have games on
i use this room
that's flash embed and interface but irc backbone
if you want real simple theres xat , which i wouldn't recomend but it works well

once again all interfaced can have your own theme and all very easy to work with

ok i made this and bk ground pic in just a few miniutes embeded on a page and is ready 2 be used look how simple some of these rooms can be your not telling me users cant understand this
