    How common is car clocking?

This is actually a post to see if my car has been clocked.

It's a 53 plate Diesel with 80k on the clock, the last 3 MOT certificates were included and they increase annually from September 2006 to September 2009 by an average of 13,000 miles per year.

To me, this seems like average mileage, and since the car has had only 1 lady owner from new. I have no reason to question it.

But just how common is clocking in the used car market?

its very common i personally know 2 'mileage correction guys' that even go to main dealerships, not as bad as it used to be before comp m.o.t's .

now if in doubt we can visit vosa's web page to see the list of all mot tests and the mileage's at that time regardless of paperwork possesion.
Dont forget to say sigpic if i helped.

Not very common at all, by the way do you want to buy a 53 Plate Mondeo, 10 owners from new and only 15000 genuine miles on the clock, only has a few faults drivers seat is worn & rubbers are falling off the pedals.....

I was surprised years ago when I was on the tools the number of guys doing it with a drill. In the late eighties I drove a taxi (Fiat regatta turbo weekend) and by removing the proper fuse the odometer was immobilised- however it also left the car with no indicators.

i read somewhere, not sure if its true or not, that you can do what ever you want to the reading on the clocks but on the new cars the ecu stores the correct milage no matter what, so if you get stopped by vosa and they don't match your ~~~~ed

So what happens if your ECU gets ~~~~ed and you have to replace it? and its not an offence to have incorrect mileage, it only becomes an offence if you sell the car and claim the mileage is genuine, hence most second hand car dealers have a disclaimer about the mileage.
