    ts 400 stihl saw

Hi anyone know how to find info on changing a Crank Oil Seal on my Stihl TS400 saw. I got it off my brother and it starts and will run for about 30 seconds then cuts out. Had it in hire shop for repair and they said it will be ?130 to replace Crank Oil Seal. These seals are peanuts to buy so wanted to have a go myself any advice would be great thanks Donka.

Hi Donka. They are not difficult seals to do. Just a bit fiddly and wee bit of stipping to do to gain access. Your best bet woulld be buy a workshop manual on ebay which shows u how.

Update i was told by hire shop who also do repairs that the oil crank seal needed replacing and it would cost me ?130 to fix, i told them no and payed them a tenner for looking at it. When i asked for the report on it they where very suspicious and never gave me one. On taking the machine somewhwere else they looked at it for nothing and told me all it was is the little fuel intake in the fuel tank was incorrectly positioned and this is why it would cut out. So i'll be down to Northern Power Tools in Rock Ferry to ask why are they rippng working class people off by inventing faults with machinery. So watch out for NORTHERN POWER TOOLS in Rock Ferry who also go by a new name now.

you could always test the stihl saw out now by cutting a new doorway in one of the walls of their premises
