Virgin Media will start offering its 100Mb superfast broadband service in December, the company announced today.
The cable giant said pre-registration started on Wednesday, with the first areas to receive the service including parts of London, the South East and Yorkshire.
It is hoping to complete the roll-out of the ultrafast service by mid-2012.

Superfast broadband: A fleet of ultrafast taxis hit London to celebrate the launch of Virgin Media s 100Mb broadband
Neil Berkett, chief executive at Virgin Media, described the launch as 'a significant milestone in the UK's broadband evolution'.
He added: 'The world of possibilities that broadband will enable is set to explode and we're excited about the innovations we can bring to consumers in the next decade.'

Virgin Media claims its 100Mb service will offer users almost 20 times the current average broadband speed in the UK, allowing them to download an entire music album in as little as five seconds.
Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the launch of the service. He said: 'We want to see superfast broadband brought to peoples' homes and businesses right across the country and this exciting news takes us a step closer towards reaching that goal.'
Virgin Media's announcement came as the company reported a 6.4 per cent increase in revenues to ?978million in the three months to September 30.
Its operating cash flow increased 11 per cent to ?387million while spend per customer hit a record ?46.38, up 3.7 per cent.

hi i just changed mine from 20mg to 50mg, phone weekends, free super hub, and ?20 paid into account to cover cost of installation, for ?28-50 per month, had to put 30days notice in to quit first then got a phone call from retentions to get the deal.
