I didn't follow the van like my old man instructed me to. Was this foolish of me? What consequences, if any, can I expect?
SHOULD I HAVE LISTENED?

i did not dilly-dally because i did not go anywhere but i fear i may have dilly-dallied had i actually done as i was told. my dilly-dallying would have prevented me from properly following the van and so i decided not to bother since i was going to disappoint my old man either wayComment

You know Red that us old guys are boring and that would probably be your description of your old man.
But he is talking from experience and as boring as that may sound to you it's that experience that you don't have and, I suppose, like a lot of kids today you feel that you know better.
It's 99% for your benefit and 1% for his as when that 1% comes home to roost he will feel like he has failed you and then there's the embarassment ,and sometimes shame, attached to what ever deed you have done wrong.
