My mate got a copper 20p in his change last week, it is a new 1 with all the same markings as a standard silver one, we did ask a friend who works in a bank & she hasn't seen any, has anybody else come across one?

are you quite sure it wasn't just dirty? this makes no sense to me. why on earth would they downgrade a 20 pence piece to a copper and leave 5's and 10's as silver? and why would your bankwenc not know anything about it?
it's either dirty, a reject that avoided detection or a big fat fib -
There's no such thing as a silver 20p.
They're made from a cupronickel alloy of 84% copper and 16% nickel. They're only silver in colour. He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

They already are. The older coins are non magnetic, newer coins just love those magnets.Canker
