    Pint prices to rise, warns pub boss

    ~~~~~~ in spoons an all
    Tasty ... but pint costs could go up
    PINT prices face a 20p price hike, the boss of JD WETHERSPOONS has warned.
    Chairman Tim Martin said local boozers were being hammered by rising costs ? and higher taxes.
    The Chancellor is due to up beer duty again on April 1.
    But Mr Martin added that brewers were also passing on higher costs on everything from oil to wheat.
    He told Sun City: "The pressure's building and prices could go up by 10p to 20p.
    "It's the last thing customers are going to want to hear as there's a real squeeze on incomes already but we won't have a choice."
    He said Wetherspoons paid TEN TIMES more tax than it made in net profits in the past six months.
    Mr Martin joked: "I've got one pub that probably pays more tax than BARCLAYS.
    "I deserve a knighthood."
    The British Beer and Pub Association last year warned the ?4 pint could soon be a reality given rising taxes and soaring barley prices.
    The cost of a pint has DOUBLED in the last 20 years from ?1.40 to nearly ?3.
