UK terror threat level raised to 'severe'

The UK's terror threat level has been raised from "substantial" to "severe" in response to conflicts in Iraq and Syria, Home Secretary Theresa May says.
The new alert level rates the risk of an attack on the UK "highly likely", although Mrs May said there was no evidence to suggest one was "imminent".

As well as making it easier to take away the passports of suspected British jihadists, Mr Cameron said measures to tackle the threat included:
    • Emergency legislation to make communications data available to police and security services
    • Working with the Kurds to make sure they had the arms needed to battle IS militants
    • Assisting the US by providing intelligence gathering
    • Delivering aid supplies to communities displaced by IS
    • Changes in levels of policing in the UK, especially the numbers of armed police

More steps to deal with the threat would be announced on Monday, Mr Cameron said, adding there were "gaps in our armoury" which needed to be strengthened.

Terrorists and Government 1 - UK Citizens who like freedom 0

Terrorism is by it's very nature 'designed' (for want of a better word) to make life more difficult for those they are terrorising, the way to combat this is to not give them what they want. So what do the UK government do to combat this they take start imposing legislation taking away the freedoms of those that have, and have, no intentions of doing anything wrong - Joe Public. Hand the victory to those the government call terrorists *doh* would that be the terrorists in Syria who the US/UK governments call rebels against Assad, or those the UK /US governments call terrorists who Assad also calls terrorists? Hebullah are also fighting IS (ISIS) does that mean Hezbullah are our friends, and if so Hezbullah are busy having a go at Israel, are Israel our enemies? "Tune in next time on Soap to find out" - some of you may remember that uhm comedy form the late 70's no idea.

We already slept into cctv camera's, GCHQ intercepting communications, data being passed to the CIA and who knows who else, data being kept by ISP's for the government to have a read through and so on, we even have armed police patrolling the streets, something we never had in the 70's when the IRA was targeting us directly fgs. Now they introduce even more legislation for surveillance.

George Orwell couldn't begin to scratch the cking surface of this. If it was 1984 people would be jumping up and down, but blind indifference and apathy is the norm in the UK.
