    donner kebab

    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1 teaspoon plain flour
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon dried italian herbs
    4 crushed garlic cloves
1 medium onion VERY finely diced
    1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 pound of minced lamb meat
Place all the ingredients in a large bowl and get mixing with your hands for about 10 mins.
making sure its thoroughly mixed together by smacking the mixture into the bowl, kneading then repeating.
Shape the mince meat into a sort of 'loaf of bread' shape, put it on a baking tray and cook it in a preheated oven at 170c for 1 hour 20 minutes, turning half way through so that it browns evenly.
once cooked, let stand for 10 mins then slice thinly.
serve in pita bread with sauce below.
you can add shredded cabbage, chopped cucumber, chopped tomatoes and sliced onions for a better taste.

    CHILLI SAUCE
    125ml tomato ketchup
    75ml cold water
    teaspoon of mint sauce
    1 teaspoon of chilli powder
    splash of lemon juice
    1/2 teaspoon sugar

you can toss in some raw sliced onions into the red sauce and you'll have spiced onions...mmm

thats a bit like saying if you buy potatoes you'll have chips
you can't beat making it yourself.at least you know exactly what goes into it. and at a fraction of the cost

This sounds more of an italian dish as opposed to a greek turkish one.

Home made donner meat is much better, and healthier than shop bought. if nothing else you know when it was made and cooked and that it hasn't spent 3 days spinning in front of a gas fire with flys having a little nibble! If making this, keep your meat as cold as possible as this will cause the meat and fat to bind together giving the "loaf" texture otherwise you may find the finished donner is crumbly.
