Curiosity Mars rover blasts first Martian rock

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover has blasted a rock with laser during its target practice on the Red Planet to reveal the stone's characteristics.
Curiosity fired 30 pulses at the rock over a 10-second window, burning a small hole on Sunday.
NASA described the rock as "fist-sized," and "the first rock on any extraterrestrial planet to be investigated with such a laser test."
