Currently Apple are replacing water damaged phones for free. This applies if it is in warranty but has stopped working through water damage or any other damage that isn't totally smashed to bits like run over or whatever and that there are no user installed mods that can affect the way it works (read that to mean jailbroken)
This is not documented and I think its a really good do. Apple normally charge you ?139 for a replacement if the phone has been damaged by you and isn't working. A friend of mine bought a 3gs and it turned out to be water damaged. He went down to the Trafford Centre yesterday prepared to hand over his ?139 and the guy just said it's free, for a limited period we are offering this on all in warranty phones. No name and address taken, just checked the email that was used for the appointment was correct and my mate walks out with a brand new 3GS, no charge.
Also of interest I checked the phone on Apples site and it was showing out of warranty but the Apple shop guy said there was 10 days left on it.
