i have used a program called dvd2one and ripped the main movie only from a DVD and saved as an image file
i need i program to read that image file and convert it to avi

all suggestions welcome

I use DVDx with Anydvd

Anydvd rips the protection off on the fly, DVDx converts it to an AVI on the fly. Usually takes about 50mins to convert a 2 hour film.

The hardest part is setting the aspect ratio correctly. If I remember I'll upload DVDx & the ratio conversion table tonight when I finally get home.

Ok, if I can work out how to upload on this new board you should find DVDx & the aspect ratio file for download.

There are instructions online, but most of it is self explanitory.

Cheers Canky but i was having lots of problems using dvdx
i have found a really good free dvd to avi converter call Winx
im able to import img files and convert withing 50mins (Normal length film)

for anyone who wants to try my method here are the links to d/load the apps required (both are free)

Use dvd2one to rip the main movie only from the DVD
Use Winx to Convert the img file to avi/divx (change the audio from mp3 to ac3 and up the video quality to 2500 to produce the video output just under 2GB)
Maintain orignal size and aspect ratio

WinAVI i used that many donkeys ago but was really unstable on XP might av another look

but at the moment extracting the video using dvd2one then mounting the image and using WinX is working very well
