Dell Laptop with Vista Operating System not starting up

Bit more info needed really, are you able to run the hdd diagnostic at all, think its f12 on bootup.

But please post a bit more info, what you see, does it boot at all? Any error messages?

If its just 'freezing' when loading up, you would be best using recovery console from the windows disc.

From there use the chkdsk function, witht he following switch /r this will check the hdd for errors, you can use other disc checkers like janobi stated, like hirens boot cd.

When the laptop is powered on the screen comes up and goes blank with the mircosoft logo at the bottom of the screen.

I tiried starting the computer with last known confirguration but with no luck.

Sounds like graphics problem,have you any restore disks if not contact dell they will usually send them free of charge.

I think the hard drive is gone, i will replace the HHD and keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.
