windows to linux network through router ?

Hello I am trying to set up a home network for three computers . two of them are Linux OS. One is Windows XP. Any suggestions what to avoid or what is the best way to set it up will be appreciated. I will preffer to use network cables to the router rather than wireless.
    Thanks in advance

It depends on what you want to do with the network so it is difficult to give you specifics.
But if you just want them all to be able to connect to the internet, then as long as the Router is supplying DHCP addresses then just plugging the computer cables in and supplying a network key should be enough.
If you want to share files between them then as long as you install the software (samba) if it is not already installed on the Linux boxes. This will allow you to create shares of the type that windows understands. Then it is just sharing folders on each of the boxes, with a small issue of firewalls.
Also Wired is easier in Linux than WiFi as many but not all WiFi cards are supported in Linux as some manufacturers have no time for Linux. Wired is much better supported.

Firewalls and security should also be considered but i have not mentioned that as it is different on both platforms, and is a complicated answer.
