afternoon m8. its when u start up the laptop it wont go to the windows page,it just gives you the option to start normally ,which it wont do,or start in repair mode which after scaninng for about 10 mins say it cannot repair it.

What version of windows are we talking about by the way? Do have the windows CD or restore CD may have come with it. Not suggesting to reload it yet, just trying to figure out what you have and what your options are first......

hmm vista, my pet hate, but never mind. Assuming its a hardware error we need to find out what it could be, normally on a child's laptop its a knackered hard disk from when they did not drop it off the bed.. I would test that first.. To test it you need some good disk testing software.. Download this ISO and burn yourself a CD from it.. http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-latest-26544/

This is the 'be all and end all' of fix it CDs and will prove itself invaluable...

when you have it, boot on the CD and go through the menu and find the hard disk testing apps, you will see that there is one for each disk manufacturer, run one, find out your disk type, use the testing apps and diagnose the disk. Let us know what it says. You will also find other PC doctor type programs on that CD, try them see what they say...
