mkv file to external hdd problem

Hi there,
I download movies and copy them to my external hdd so i can play them on my ps3 no problem until recently ,ve started getting mkv/BLU-RAY files which i can succesfully convert to play on my ps3 the only problem is when i try to paste it on my hdd it says its to big even tho i have loads of space on there. Is there something else i have to do.

I'm not aware of the specifics - What sizes are we talking about? Do you think it's purely size related?
Consider streaming the files using MediaTomb - Free UPnP MediaServer
or PS3 Media Server
- the latter of whice is pretty simple to setup as it's a java app.

Doing some quick research into this, apparently there is a file size limit on .mp4 files - I usually use .m2ts and have copied 8G+ onto it in the past. Let us know if it's specific filetypes, try renaming an mp4 to mpg

It is because the PS3 uses FAT32 which has a 4Gb file size limit.

The only way I found to watch these on PS3 is to either copy them on to dual layer DVD (or Blu-Ray if you have a Blu Ray writer) or stream them from your PC

PS if you convert your external hard drive to NTFS, it will accept the movie but the PS3 will then not be able to see the external HD

Thanks for that! when i looked closer on mkv2vob it had options on the drop down and one of them is fat32.
Didnt know what that was till u mentioned it so i converted it in that format and it splits it in to 2 seperate parts so u can drag it over and it works a treat so thanks again ur a star!!!!!!!!
