    Serial-PCMCIA

    hi guys
    hoping someone can help me.

i have Dell Inspiron 6000 ( old one ) and i use this car
    diagnostics,
with the hardware i run it "Requires" that i use Com 2
    Serial Port with specific settings,

is there any way of telling the PCMCIA card to use "Com2" and set the settings that i need?

    Realy hoping someone can help..

Your diagnostic device is on PCMCIA? Usually diagnostic interfaces are made for USB or SERIAL/PARALEL, if the PCIMCIA is emulating the SERIAL device you can specify the COM port to use, unless the COM port is used by other device.

normally to change port settings you go to device manager/look for the hardware/then highlight it/right click properties and look for port setting tab in the box you should see advanced if you click on that it will then show what com port the hardware is using which is a drop down box there you can change the number to one thats not in use, or simply change it to the one you want.

      hope the above helps.

        This is the problem
go all the way through device manage.

and there are NO com ports installed..

however there is a "PCI Serial Port" listed but NO drivers are installed for this,
and i cant find one anywhere...and i have tried and tried..

Did your diagnostic hardware come with any drivers?

try using driver guide to look for the driver, its a free sign up.
had a quick look and its listing over 600 drivers for your make of pc you may find it there.

                Thanks for all posts guys,
i have come to decision that "cheap chinese PCMCIA cards are cr-ap"
and will be filling it in the waste bin very soon.

i had to bite to bullet in the end and bought second hand
Dell Latitude with built in serial..
                and ALL problems now solved...

many thanks to all who tried to help...
